Transforming Tanzania’s health information interface

The global digitisation movement calls for a transformation of the relationship that individuals have with their health records. Tanzania is answering this call through modernising the system through which national health information is accessed to improve health management and responses to national health problems.

The challenge

Tanzanian citizens and public health actors face difficulties accessing health information – such as, disease prevalence and incidence, mortality, and outbreaks – due to the lack of an existing information gateway.

The implementers
  • Tanzania Ministry of Health
  • WHO
  • Jhpiego
  • Clinton Health Access Initiative
  • HISP Tanzania
The solution

HISP Tanzania offered technical support on the development and implementation of a national health portal using dhis2 and other platforms.

The system supports data monitoring and evaluation, analysis of data from different sources, integration of dhis2 and other data sources, compatibility with web and mobile software such as Android and IOS.

The impact

The system allows quick and improved access to trustworthy health information, providing a thorough understanding of the current health situation, resources, priority needs, and services—critical for setting, monitoring, and achieving goals and targets.
